A pure heart has perfect vision, they see God in everything

The sixth blessing in a series of nine blessings for the believer is having a pure heart.

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure art heart: for they shall see God.

It was King David who missed more than anything, walking innocently before God.

David’s greatest victories as a young man stemmed out of a pure heart. It was in his private devotion to God that he publicly killed the giant Goliath. He didn’t see Goliath as a big problem, he saw Goliath inhibiting others from seeing how big God truly is.

It was in his private worship and devotion to God that he didn’t kill king Saul when he had the opportunity.

But, when David went and deliberately violated his conscience and committed adultery, his innocence was gone. David calls out to God in the following psalm because his world caved in. He could no longer see God. Sin will blind us from how awesome God truly is.

Psalm 51: 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Jesus makes the promise of a blessing that comes from having a pure heart. Jesus also acknowledges that purity is a process.

When we look at the first five blessings found in Matthew chapter 5, from the last five weeks, we can see that purity comes by going through the steps.

1. Admit we are lost. Blessed are the Poor in Spirit.

2. Mourn at all the loss. Blessed are they who mourn.

3. Walk a deliberate new path. Blessed are the Meek.

4. Know God’s ways and walk in those ways. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness.

5. Having compassion on others. Blessed are the merciful.

6. Seeing everything through God’s eyes. Blessed are the pure at heart.

Purity is a heart thing, not just an outward thing. Purity affects our thoughts, which then affects our actions.

A pure heart doesn’t mix with unclean things.

For example, as a Christian, I acknowledge that there are hundreds of different belief systems in the world. I also believe it’s getting more difficult trying not to be judgmental, critical or even quietly trying to serve God.

The world we are living is constantly trying to infiltrate the Christian believer’s thoughts and beliefs with alternative beliefs against the Word of God.

It’s getting increasingly difficult to be a Christian in the workplace and community. We are seen as bigots, narrow minded, unloving and arrogant. It’s tempting to try and fit in.

But to the pure heart, we see things differently. We love those who are for us and we love those who are against us. We are not called by God to fit in, we are called by God to stay true.

Jesus said, ‘I am sending you out into the world like innocent sheep in the midst of wolves. So be as calm as a dove and as wise as a serpent.’

The pure heart has nothing to hide.

The pure heart knows that the only hope this world has is found in Jesus. Everything else is a temporary fix not a permanent answer to life. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, the Life.

The pure heart is not afraid of the opinions of individuals who speak soft and lovely words, but are filled with poisonous intentions.

The pure heart is impartial to politics, differences of opinion and dogmas. The pure heart is only interested in what the Master Shepherd has to say. The pure heart is answerable to conscience.

This is the promise Jesus gives to those with a pure heart, that they will see God, which is motivation enough to stay clear of any other lure.

Dear God,

I pray for everyone who reads this blog and they desire to live a life with a pure heart, free from all the obstacles of this world, that they put their trust in the precious gift of salvation that Jesus Christ offers.

I also pray for every believer who has gone astray, like every believer has done at some point in their walk with you, that they turn back and call upon the name of Jesus who is faithful to save.

I pray these things in Jesus name, Amen.

If you are new to the Christian faith and you want to become a Christian, please pray this prayer.

Dear Jesus, I believe I am a sinner. I am lost and I want to ask you into my heart. I believe you died on the cross for my sin and the sins of humanity. I ask for your forgiveness and that you will give me a new spiritual life through the power of the Holy Spirit. I believe you rose from the dead and I thank you for this precious gift of hope today. In Jesus Name Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of God.

Let’s stay connected and grow together in the faith. Get yourself a Bible and just start reading a chapter a day, starting with the New Testament. Learn about the life of Jesus, He is just amazing.

I’m doing a series for New Believers called the nine blessings of the Christian Life, starting here. Blessed are the poor in spirit.

God bless you

Roaming Chaplain
