Blessed are the Meek – A believers superpower

Matthew 5: 5 Blessed are the meek, they will inherit the earth.

The blessings that comes with meekness is the ability to utilise the resources God puts in our lives to create a far better world through us and not just for us.

In the last two blogs we’ve looked at the first two blessings of a believer’s life.

1. Firstly – Recognising the bankrupt condition of our soul, opens the door to the spiritual wealth.

2. Secondly – Taking time to mourn at the magnitude of our loss, we begin to experience God’s healing power.

When we go through the process of the first two blessings we become open to the third blessing of true power, the power of self control.

Jesus talks about the power of meekness that enables the believer to inherit and keep all God has for us.

The power of the MEEK!

One way of describing meekness is having an ability to be gentle, quiet, not argumentative, forceful or wilful. Meanwhile having the ability to dominate, control and overcome even our worst enemy through love.

It was MOSES who was called the meekest man alive.

Numbers 12:3 3 Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.

Moses who could face Pharaoh and his henchmen without fear, calling him to account and declaring God’s word. “Let my people go”

Moses who led a nation out of captivity.

Moses who experienced the presence of God and received the Ten Commandments.

Moses who withstood forty years sojourning in the desert towards the promised land.

Moses who was one of two prophets who visited Jesus when He was transfigured.

Matthew 17: 1 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

The world as we know it hasn’t got a clue on the power of meekness. The world uses law, threats, politics, lies and manipulation to bend the will of the people and Jesus offers the power of meekness.

A meek person has one reference of their power and they remember that they have no entitlement to it. It has been given to them as a free gift.

The more we yield to God the greater our freedom becomes.

A meek person has nothing to prove, nothing to gain, nothing to offer other than Love.

When Jesus released His disciples to the lost he concluded with the phrase “Freely you have received, freely give”

Matthew 10: 5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7 As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

When we exercise meekness we are like the prodigal son who returned to the father after wasting his inheritance and then surrendering ourselves with the father’s goodness. At that point the prodigal son inherited all the blessings of being restored back into the family with all its benefits.

When we come to God with our broken lives and acknowledge that God loves us unconditionally like the prodigal son, we will inherit once again all that God has for us.

What’s the point of gaining the whole world at the cost of your soul?

The blessings that come with meekness is the ability to utilise the resources God puts in our lives to create a far better world through us and not just for us.

You have no idea how strong you are, our problem isn’t our strength, it’s our ability to yield it to God.

Like a Maverick horse that has a harness, we get directed for greater purpose, when we yield our words, faith and action for the Master’s use.

James tells us we have great power the moment we give it back to God and allow Him to guide us anywhere He chooses.

James 3:2-3 For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.

As a believer, we have the promise of these blessings and like any undeserving gift, we must choose to receive them not earn them.

Jesus is truly the way the truth and the life.
