Everyone needs personal space to flourish, so to be left alone from time to time is not all bad.
People that end up feeling lonely often place a hedge around their lives which repels sincere companionship.
Most toxic relationships are often a result of individuals not knowing the difference between being alone and becoming lonely.
Don’t fall into the old trap of the proverb ‘familiarity breeds contempt’, (an extensive knowledge of or close association with someone or something that leads to a loss of respect for them or it.)
When we believe we know all there is to know about someone or something, we create arrogant assumptions which leads to isolation.
Don’t even begin to assume we know anything about anyone. Most of us struggle to work out how we tick, let alone believe we understand others.
This is true of family members, work colleagues, community groups. We start taking each other for granted.
Take time out to develop skills that allow for complete independence. This will also help to develop some self respect rather than picking apart those we associate with.
We see this play out even in children that are squabbling, we give them timeout alone to realign some basic civility.
Don’t spend your alone time festering and allowing others to live rent free on your head. You will have wasted a precious opportunity to grow internally.
Allow your alone time to nurture what your passionate about. This will give you the fortitude to go into relationships with a fresh perspective and less guarded.
We all carry emotional baggage and we all feel lonely from time to time. To prevent loneliness from becoming a condition, take time out to make new relationships and keep growing your network.
All relationships need space to grow, so don’t be too quick to cut people off just because you don’t see eye to eye.
